We chose the narrative form of a pin with a kinetic head based on the principle of a pinwheel. For us, the pin functions as a distinctive and easily readable gesture that symbolically marks the Kunsthalle as a point on the map worth remembering.
The kinetic pin object responds to the historical context of the building itself and to the legacy of Zdeněk Pešánek’s sculptures. One of the main inspirations was his series One Hundred Years of Electricity, originally intended for the facade of the Zenger transformer station, today’s Kunsthalle Gallery building. The four light-kinetic objects in this series symbolized key milestones in the development of electricity between 1836 and 1936. Unfortunately, however, they never appeared on the facade.
Our Pin loosely follows this link. It is also a light-kinetic object and refers to current energy production – especially wind power, which represents one of the most significant milestones of the last century. It thus connects the historical context of the place with current technological themes.
